Frequently Asked Questions
Are you a Fiduciary?
Yes. As a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® (CFP®) professional, I am required to act as a fiduciary at all times. This means I am legally and ethically obligated to put your best interests above mine when providing financial advice. Unlike other financial professionals who may only have to meet a “suitability” standard, I always prioritize what is best for you, while tailoring my advice to your specific needs and goals.
How do you get paid?
Canela Wealth is a fee-only firm, which means that we are only compensated by the financial planning fees. Because I don’t earn commissions or manage your assets directly, my recommendations are made in your best interest – with no hidden incentives or pressure to sell you anything. This helps reduce conflicts of interest and keeps the focus where it belongs: on your goals.
Please refer to our Services page for more information on pricing.
Advice-Only? What does that mean?
As an Advice-only firm, Canela Wealth does not manage your investments directly or take custody of your accounts. I provide personalized financial planning and investment recommendations while you maintain 100% control over your accounts at all times. There is no need to move your money to a new firm or open new accounts. Of course, I am happy to screen-share and walk you through the steps to implement my advice. My goal is to guide and educate you to manage your finances going forward.
How much do I need to have invested to work with you?
None – there are no asset minimums here. While many advisors require clients to have a certain amount invested before they offer services, I believe financial planning should be accessible to everyone, regardless of where you are on your financial journey. My goal is to help you build wealth, whether you’re just getting started or looking to grow what you’ve already accumulated.
What is your investing philosophy?
I consider myself a Boglehead®, inspired by John Bogle, the founder of Vanguard and the pioneer of index investing. I believe in keeping things simple, low-cost, and focused on what we can actually control. In practice, that looks like building a diversified portfolio using low-cost index funds instead of chasing individual stocks or trying to time the market. I believe long-term consistency beats short-term speculation every time.
The real value I provide isn’t about “beating the market.” It’s about helping you build a thoughtful, evidence-based plan that aligns your investments with your goals and values. My role is to be your partner as you grow wealth over time and make confident financial decisions along the way.
What if I’m not ready to commit to a full year of financial planning?
That’s completely fine. I get it! You can start by booking a free 30-minute chat so we can talk through what you’re looking for and see what might be the right fit. I also offer a 4-month engagement that dives into your full financial picture, with the option (not the obligation) to keep working together for implementation.
